Feb 6: Three things Jesus taught that no one believes - a hard examination of the sermon on the mount.


Feb 20: Reading Discussion Night: The search for equality in a non-egalitarian society.  Please read this article in advance - our discussion will include how this article strikes you and also how scripture and faith inform this issue.


March 5: Movie Discussion Night: Trying to become a better person versus trying to appear to be better in order to get what we want (Please watch Groundhog Day in advance).


March 19: No Honest Questions This Week


April 16: Reading Discussion Night: Is faith still the standard for honestly facing the truth as in the days of the prophets.  Contact Russ Colson to read the focus article in advance. 


April 30: No Honest Questions This Week


May 14: Movie Discussion Night: How do we react when our moral codes are challenged in the crucible of real life? (Please watch Friendly Persuasion, a Civil War movie from 1956, in advance).





Evening Meeting format

A. Regular meetings will consist of a simple, culturally-varied, meal—usually soup and bread with 1 soup vegetarian—lasting 30 to 45 minutes, followed by a Study and Discussion lasting 1 hour.


The Study and Discussion will be structured as

1)  A short 10 minute thesis presented by a speaker

2)  Challenging questions asked by a moderator and addressed by the speaker.

3)  Small group discussion of the thesis

4)  Questions and comments from the participants, addressed by the speaker or other participants

 

B. Special meetings with an outside speaker will consist of a simple, culturally-varied, meal—usually soup and bread with 1 soup vegetarian—lasting 30 to 45 minutes, followed by a Presentation and Discussion lasting 1 hour.


The Presentation and Discussion will be structured as:

1)  A 30 minute presentation by the speaker

2)  3 challenging questions asked by a moderator and addressed by the speaker.

3)  Questions and comments from the participants, addressed by the speaker or other participants
